Key Features:
-
Inductive Sensing Technology:
The SN04 P uses inductive sensing to detect metallic objects within a 4 mm range. This non-contact technology eliminates wear and tear associated with mechanical switches, providing long-lasting and reliable detection. -
PNP Output (Sourcing):
The sensor features a PNP output, which means that when the object is detected, it will send a positive voltage signal. This output type is commonly used in PLC systems, controllers, or other automation setups. -
Normally Open (NO) Design:
The sensor is normally open, meaning it does not send any signal until a metal object is within the detection range. When the object is detected, the sensor closes the circuit and sends the output signal. This makes it ideal for on/off type applications. -
IP67 Protection:
The SN04 P is built with an IP67 protection rating, meaning it is dust-tight and waterproof. This makes it suitable for use in harsh industrial environments where the sensor may be exposed to dust, dirt, moisture, or cleaning processes. -
Fast Response Time:
The sensor has a response time of less than 1 ms, ensuring quick and accurate detection of objects, even in high-speed systems. -
Compact and Easy Installation:
The M8 threaded body makes it easy to install in various machinery and automated systems. Its compact size (8mm in diameter) fits well into tight spaces, making it perfect for applications with limited installation space. -
Wide Operating Voltage:
The SN04 P operates within a wide voltage range of 5V to 30V DC, which is common in many industrial and automation systems. This flexibility makes it suitable for a wide variety of setups. -
Wide Temperature Range:
The sensor can operate in a wide temperature range of -25°C to +70°C, ensuring reliable performance even in harsh environmental conditions.
How to Use the SN04 P Inductive Switch Proximity Sensor:
1. Mounting the Sensor:
-
Positioning:
Mount the SN04 P sensor in such a way that the sensing face is directed towards the metallic object you wish to detect. The sensor can detect objects within 4 mm, so ensure that the object will pass within this range. -
Installation Method:
The sensor comes with an M8 threaded body, making it easy to install in M8-compatible threaded holes or with mounting brackets designed for M8 sensors. Tighten the sensor into position securely, ensuring it is correctly aligned with the detection zone. -
Distance:
The detection range is 4 mm. Be sure that the object to be detected will move within this range of the sensor’s face.
2. Wiring the Sensor:
-
Power Supply:
Connect the brown wire (VCC) to the positive terminal of your DC power supply (within 5V to 30V DC range). Connect the blue wire to the negative terminal or ground. -
Output Wire:
The black wire is the output signal. This will output a positive signal (voltage) when the sensor detects a metallic object. You can wire this output to a PLC, relay, controller, or any other system that requires an on/off trigger. -
Load Connection:
If you are using the sensor with a PLC, make sure that the output is wired to an input on the controller to trigger a process when the object is detected. The sensor will activate the output when a metallic object is within range.
3. Testing the Sensor:
-
Once connected, turn on the power supply. Test the sensor by bringing a metallic object within its detection range (4 mm).
-
The sensor's output signal should switch, either activating a device or sending a signal to the control system.
-
The NO (Normally Open) design means that the output will only trigger when the object is detected, and there will be no signal in the absence of an object.
4. Fine-tuning Detection:
-
The SN04 P has no manual sensitivity adjustment, but you can use different mounting positions or sensor types (if applicable) to fine-tune its performance for specific objects or applications.
Applications of the SN04 P Inductive Switch Proximity Sensor:
-
Automated Machinery:
Ideal for position detection in automated systems and robotic arms. The sensor can verify if parts or objects are in the correct position before triggering further actions. -
Conveyor Systems:
Use the sensor to detect the presence of metal objects on a conveyor belt, triggering processes such as sorting, packaging, or feeding other machines. -
Safety and Limit Switches:
The SN04 P is suitable for use as a limit switch in machinery, ensuring that mechanical parts or doors are properly aligned before machine operation. -
Object Counting:
Use the proximity sensor to detect and count objects or products as they pass through a conveyor system or automated process. -
Material Handling:
Perfect for detecting metal parts, components, or products in material handling systems, where precise, non-contact detection is required. -
Position Detection in Assembly Lines:
The sensor can be integrated into assembly lines to detect if parts are present, ensuring that the assembly process proceeds correctly. -
Pneumatic or Hydraulic Systems:
The SN04 P can detect the movement of metal components in pneumatic or hydraulic systems, providing feedback for controlling processes like valve position or actuator stroke.
Advantages of the SN04 P Inductive Switch Proximity Sensor:
-
Non-Contact Detection:
The SN04 P uses inductive technology, meaning it detects metal objects without any physical contact, leading to longer lifespan and less wear and tear compared to mechanical switches. -
